Sony Buys EMI Catalogue – Rollin’ in the Deep
Just a few short hours ago Sony won approval with the EU to buy EMI’s publishing for a casual 2.2 billion dollars. Despite the cries of major music conglomerates about the recession that looms over the music industry greats, it looks like Sony is still “Rolling in the Deep.” The millions of song rights acquired from EMI include the works of Adele, Ozzy, Jay-Z, Frank Sinatra, and many more legendary artists. This acquisition will move Sony Music from 4th place to 1st in the music publishing realm. Hmm… if this was the game of Monopoly we would say that Sony just wrapped up The Boardwalk and the only people collecting $200 as you pass go are Sony and whoever else they pawn the catalogue off to!
